Only qualified candidates will be recruited as teachers — Ekiti SUBEB

The Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, Prof. Femi Akinwumi, has stated that only qualified and capable candidates will be considered for employment in the current recruitment process for primary school teachers in the state.

Akinwumi emphasized that this measure is essential to guarantee quality education at the primary school level, which he described as "crucial to the academic growth of pupils and their future educational endeavors."

The SUBEB chairman made these remarks in a statement released in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, where he revealed that the board had completed a four-day interview process for shortlisted candidates seeking positions in the state’s public primary schools.

He remarked, "Candidates will be chosen solely based on merit and their relevant qualifications. Only those possessing the necessary certificates will be taken into account.

"The interview aimed to ensure that only qualified and competent teachers are recruited into the public primary schools of the state. This ongoing initiative is intended to fill existing vacancies and tackle teacher shortages, especially in rural and hard-to-reach areas."

He affirmed that the state government would persist in upholding high standards within the education sector, beginning at the primary school level, which he noted is vital for the academic development of pupils.

Akinwumi stated, "If pupils do not succeed at the primary school level, it will have repercussions at the junior secondary school level and in their future academic endeavors. I assure you that Ekiti SUBEB will not compromise on the future of our pupils."

He mentioned that the interview panel consisted of experienced senior technocrats and management personnel from the board, including directors, administrative officers, and education officers, adding that the process involved oral interviews and micro-teaching sessions conducted by the candidates.

Akinwumi expressed gratitude to the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, for endorsing the recruitment initiative to fill vacancies in public primary schools throughout the state.
